SPRING NEWSLETTER & CALENDAR OF EVENTS
April 14, 2008
Greetings Fellow Viper Owners ~
I hope the spring weather these last couple of
days has you all in the mood for getting your Viper out for a cruise. I haven’t had mine out yet due to the poor road
conditions here in

VCA encourages regional clubs to participate in a charity of some type. Therefore, we
have adopted the “Children’s Miracle
Network” as our club charity. Children's Miracle Network is the
alliance of premier children's hospitals. Every year, Children's Miracle
Network hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury
imaginable. Children's Miracle Network hospitals impact the lives of more
children than any other children's organization in the world. Children's
hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, life-saving research and preventative
education for children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is a Children's
Miracle Network hospital dedicated to serving children in every community

As
I was reading through the spring VIPER Magazine,
I came across some other photos that looked familiar to me. I thought, “I’ve seen that garage and that
car looks familiar.” Sure enough, it’s the
“Viper Shrine” of former PA-WV Club President, Mike Shveda. If you missed it,
check it out on page 58. I’ve seen that
garage and it is truly just what Mike describes…a shrine! However, I don’t see Mike’s signed ’95 Carroll Shelby Viper often
enough! Thanks for submitting your article to VIPER Magazine Mike!
The Member/Officer of the Year Awards are upon us
again. This program was established by
the VCA to help recognize some of the outstanding talent in the Zones and
Regions of the VCA. If you have an
interest in nominating someone from the PA-WV Club for one of these awards,
please send a letter of recommendation to Ginger via e-mail, or to the address
shown on the end of this newsletter by July 1.

Several
new Viper owners have joined the list of PA-WV club members. On behalf of this club, as well as the VCA, I
would like to welcome you!
Congratulations to those of you who have taken delivery of a new ’08
Viper. I know we have a few amongst the
club. It will be great to see a few of
the new models at some of our events this year.
We still have a few club
shirts available. Additional info is at
the bottom of the PA-WV website http://wvpa.viperclub.org .
We have several fun events already set up for this
year, and many more in planning stages.
Following is a list of items already on the calendar of events. At the January meeting several members
expressed an interest in attending some car shows in their area. We have therefore listed several that we were
made aware of.
APRIL 26 ~ Covered Bridge Cruise,
Some
members were concerned that their Viper would not clear the approach to the
bridges, but Lauri reports, “if I clear the
bridges, none of you have anything to worry about. Only thing to worry about are the Amish road
apples (Horse poop), my spoiler doesn’t clear those.”

Rendezvous. On April 10th, I
received an e-mail from NJ Club President and event coordination Bobby
Cerchione with an update on this event.
He stated, “we only had 7 cars signed
up as of last night (April 9th).
Please, pump up your membership, so we can dominate this event with our
snakes. Ferrari had 17 cars, Maserati had 9 cars, Corvette had 12 cars and even
Lamborghini had 7 cars. The Zone is Back
folks! Let’s make it a good one!” So if you haven’t already preregistered,
please do so ASAP. Although I don’t
track my Viper, Ginger and I will be in attendance to partake of these
festivities. Complete information and registration materials regarding this event was
e-mailed to our members on March 14th. If you need additional info, go to www.pocono-csd.com or contact bobbycapex@aol.com or troeller@rolstar.com .

This
will be a slow paced, approximately 60 mile drive through the heart of Amish
Countryside, filled with horse driven black buggies. This time of the
year you’ll be able to see lots of mules and Amish working on fields.
We will start at the SONIC
Drive In,
located on RT 222 Brownstown, PA (Brownstown
is about 3 miles south of Ephrata) on April 26th at 10AM. There is a Sheetz gas
station across the road for anyone in need of gas. Drive starts at the north
side of
After the lunch, we’ll continue north towards our
starting point Brownstown. At Brownstown we’ll cross 3 most scenic bridges in
this area. Cruise, including the lunch will take about 4 hours. Once we have
crossed the last covered bridge, we will gather at our house (Lauri’s house -
see address at bottom) for refreshments (I don’t think anyone will be hungry
after the Amish style meal…)
Note:
-
Since
the drive will cover winding country side roads, your car may end up a bit
dustier than usually. Mules pulling farm equipment frequently cross the roads.
-
There
will be quite a few horse driven buggies on the road, pass them SLOWLY, our
cars can spook the horses easily. Occasional “road apples” can be found (horse
poop).
-
Do
not pack 5 cars on the bridge at one time…some of them have a low weight
limitation (4-5tons).
Want to stay longer???
-
-
Take
a ride in a Steam Locomotive in Strasburg.
-
Wanna’
know how 1 (one) horse power feels like, take an Amish Buggy ride.
-
Interested
in seeing an Amish house and farm? We have several.
-
There
will be also plentiful of Amish road stands, with baked foods, homemade root
beer, jams, jellies, pickled veggies and handmade wooden goods. Several of them
are “honor stands”, meaning that you pick what you want and pay into a coffee
can. Stands are open Saturday, but NOT on Sundays.
-
Antiques?
At Stoudtburg you’ll have 78.000sft and 400 dealers… and Stoudts micro brewery
-
Wave
at the Amish, even if they prefer black buggies and horses, they do like
Vipers. Don’t believe it? Just try!

We would like to get a head/car count so that we can make reservations
for the restaurant. It is not a fancy place, like said, very Amish... Long
tables and buffet style.
