SPRING NEWSLETTER

April 2007

Greetings Fellow Viper Owners ~

I thought VIPER season was about to open here in Mansfield PA, however, Mother Nature just dumped more snow on us here in northeastern PA.  Many of you have probably already had your Viper out for a spring spin, but it sounds like weeks away for me.

Below are some highlights of 2007 thus far:

“After the Holidays Party in Hershey PA” - On February 9-11th several members of our club gathered at the Quality Inn & Suites in Hershey for our “After the Holidays” party/weekend.  On Saturday morning several club members met at The Hershey Pantry for breakfast after which the men toured the Antique Auto Museum, while the ladies did some shopping at The Outlets, both of which are located in Hershey.  In the afternoon we enjoyed a tour of Chocolate World and visited the Hershey company store. Dinner on Saturday evening was held at Houlihans where each attendee received a gift.  Door prizes were awarded to some lucky winners.  A special thanks to Carmen & Vanessa Gullage for organizing this event.

“Pocono Track Day”May 26-29 - The New Jersey club extends the following invitation:

Pocono....A Celebration of Speed and Design May 26-29, 2007 Pocono, PA

This event is open to the Viper Nation! Please join the NJ VCA in celebrating our car and it's awesome tradition on the track against such marques as Ferrari, Lambogini, Pantera, Corvette and Maserati.

You DO NOT have to attend all four days, you can just come up for the concours if you would like, so please go to the site and register.

All Viper owners who register and attend the event will receive an awesome goodie bag filled with tremendous Viper goodies.  Hope to see you there!

“Tatortoga BBQ” - May 20th - "Tator's BBQ" will be held at the world famous Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs, NY from 10:00 to 4:00.

Also that day the Saratoga Auto Museum is having their spring car show with over 400 cars and with maybe 100 Vipers it WILL be one of the largest car shows on the North East!

“Viper Drag Racing” - June 10th - Club member Ed Rist has organized a Viper drag racing event at Beaver Springs Dragway, Beaver Springs PA (www.beaversprings.com).  The scheduled time is from 10AM to 2PM.   Cost would be $30 per car and should provide you with a lot of track time.  Although the track will not be reserved just for Vipers, a lane will be devoted solely for our use.  Ed extends an invitation for anyone to bring their car, whether it’s a Viper, or a muscle car, to run side by side down the track with a friend.  Ed reports that he has gone to Beaver Springs on a couple of other occasions and it is a fun environment without a lot of stress.  It‘s a perfect opportunity for those who have never drag raced to learn, hone their skills without a lot of pressure and have fun while doing it.  At the present time there are approximately 8 Vipers from the Harrisburg area who have expressed an interest in this event.  For further information contact Ed at:  edward.l.rist@xo.com  or 717-921-8911 (home) or 717-441-9906 (work).

“Viper Play Day at BeaveRun Road Course” June 29th - The Viper Club of Ohio is extending an invitation for fellow Viper Owners to attend this event.  The location is the BeaveRun Motorsports Complex, North Course, Big Beaver, PA.  (www.beaverun.com)  Track time is from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  For further information contact John Wojnar at jw97viper@yahoo.com or by phone 330-351-3515 (cell) or 330-494-8780 (home).

“Vipers at Carlisle - July 6-8th in conjunction with the “2007 Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals” in Carlisle (PA) – If you have never attended this fun event please plan on joining us this year!  Pre-register your Viper by June 18th to get the discounted rate of $35.  Registering a vehicle for the show field allows three-day admission for two adults and one vehicle.  And, if you plan to register several vehicles, multiple-vehicle discounts apply to vehicles titled to same address (owner’s card required upon check-in).  A second vehicle registered is $30 while any additional vehicles will be $25 each.  To pre-register, or for additional information, log onto the Carlisle Productions web site: www.carsatcarlisle.com

Regardless of what regional Viper club you may be a member of, when registering your Viper (or whatever vehicle you bring), please remember to register as part of the VIPER CLUB OF AMERICA.  Doing so will enable us to count your registration towards the Club Challenge Award.  We captured 3rd place in that contest again last year.  There were 52 Vipers on the show field; however, we only received credit for 48 due to incorrect registrations.  With your help we can increase that number substantially.  Put the dates on your calendar and plan on attending!  More info on this event in the next newsletter.

“LET’S ROLL TOUR/CRUISE” September 8th - sight of the crash of Flight 93 - Shanksville PA.  We are working with our Northeast Zone Director and New Jersey Club President, Bobby Cerchione, on this event.  Tentative plans are to use The Holiday Inn in Mechanicsburg as a base. Several of Bobby’s New Jersey club members, as well as many from the New York club, have cruised to NYC to memorialize 911 the past couple of years.   Bobby has some great plans in the works to cruise to Shanksville to remember those on Flight 93!  This is guaranteed to be a very heartwarming event.  More info later.

Grand Canyon Cruise/Poker Run 2007” October 13th - This is the third year for this event.  It seems those that have attended in the past have enjoyed traveling on the country roads in Tioga County.  We have decided to change the format a bit for 2007.  We're moving our headquarters to The Hampton Inn just off Rt. 15 in Williamsport.  The "after the cruise party" is planned for the Susquehanna Room at The Hampton Inn.   Rather than scheduling a group dinner later that evening, we plan to "order in" from area establishments, which will allow for more relaxation time.  The Hampton Inn has an indoor pool, whirlpool and fitness center on the premises. Brewed coffee is available on a 24-hour basis in the front lounge and a complimentary hot breakfast is served in the AM.  Perkins’s restaurant and Wegman’s grocery store are located right next door to the hotel. It will certainly be more relaxing and we will have more time to visit, etc.  There are 10 rooms blocked for Friday and/or Saturday night.  The hotel information is as follows:

The Hampton Inn, 140 Via Bella, Williamsport 17701

www.hampton-inn.com/hi/williamsport

Phone:  1-800-HAMPTON  or  their local number is 570-323-6190

Group Code - VPA

Cut-off date for special rate - September 30.

1 King Bed non-smoking Room, - $119.00

2 Queen Bed non-smoking Room - $115.00

However, according to what we found on-line, if you have AAA you should be able to get the King for $107.10 and the Queen for $103.50.  If they won't honor the AAA rate on the phone, feel free to go on line to reserve your room, just bypass the block of rooms. As long as we know you're coming it isn't a problem.

Special arrangements will be made for “secure” Viper parking again this year.

Any updated information regarding this event will be addressed in future newsletters.

ADDITIONAL CLUB BUSINESS:

“VCA Zone Recognition Award” – Recently this award was bestowed to your Club Secretary, Ginger Kurzejewski, for “outstanding leadership and enthusiastic support of the VCA”.  Ginger, who was nominated for this award by several club members, received a memorable plaque from Viper Headquarters.

“Club Shirts” - We still have club shirts available.  Photos and a copy of the order blank can be found at the bottom of the PA WV website.  http://wvpa.viperclub.org

“E-mail Address?” The following is a statement taken from the VCA Regional and National Officers Business Center:

“The Viper Club is a very firm believer in providing the most timely communications possible. As such, many are done strictly by e-mail, including some regional newsletters. If you do not provide us with a valid e-mail address then the VCA cannot guarantee you will receive all communications.  Your e-mail address will not be shared with any other entity other than VCA Club Management, not even Dodge. You will NOT receive spam e-mail and your region will save a substantial amount of money on mailings.”

On several occasions I have been asked by the VCA Board to forward information to my club members on an immediate basis.  If you have not given me the approval to forward e-mails to you, you have missed those important announcements.   The most recent have been announcements pertaining the “VCA Members Only” half-price registration rate for the SRT Track Experience at Summit Point Raceway on March 10 or 11, and the announcement of approximately $15,000 worth of Viper parts/accessories for charity auctions with proceeds going to the Luke Air Force Base MWR Fund and supporting the VCA's activities during the Viper vs. Viper event at the base March 23-25!

Therefore, if you have received a paper copy of this newsletter but would like to receive future newsletters and important club information via email, please request so by sending an email to vipergts@ptd.net .

“Club Banners” We have worked with the Illinois club to produce a banner for the PA WV region.  This is something that the Illinois club initiated in 2006.  These awesome vinyl banners measure 24” x 36”.  The top corners have grommets for hanging purposes. Club banners are available for 2006 and 2007.  Cost of the banners is $95 each. To order your banner(s) send a check made payable to “PA WV VIPER CLUB” to Ginger Kurzejewski, PO Box 32, Mansfield PA 16933.  If only purchasing one banner please be sure to specify if you are ordering the 2006 or 2007 banner.  The banners are shown below and will be on display at future meetings.

Closing Notes:

Several new Viper owners have joined the list of PA WV club members.  On behalf of this club, as well as the VCA, I would like to welcome you!  I hope to meet you all at a Viper event real soon!

There are still some members that have not paid their dues for 2007.  Please submit your payment to the VCA as soon as possible.  Membership forms can be found on the VCA web page.

I remind you all to drive safely as you enjoy the spring weather.  And as always, if you have any ideas or suggestions for events, or questions regarding any of the activities mentioned, please contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you.
