THE SNAKE PIT

September  2005

Greetings Viper Friends:

Wow, it’s been a great summer to own a Viper!  Unlike the last few rainy summers in PA, this one has been very dry and HOT, HOT, HOT!!!  We certainly have had some great driving days.

The above photo of fellow Viper owners was taken on July 9th at “All Chrysler Nationals” at the Carlisle (PA) Fairgrounds.  AWESOME!  That is the only word I can think of to describe the site at the Viper corral on that day.  What a great turnout we had this year!  The PA WV region hosted the Viper tent at this event.  With the help of our region’s Past President Rege Kort, and Ohio Club President, Terry Bosserman, we easily directed 54 Vipers onto the Fun Field for the show.  Many people walking by were awestruck to see so many Vipers parked in one location.  Traveling the farthest was Tim Jelle; he drove all the way from Mesa, AZ.  Tim enjoyed the PA weather.  He said it was much cooler in PA than AZ…and we thought it was hot here!!!  The shade provided by our big tent made for a comfortable setting for the catered luncheon for 90+ members and guests.  Our 50-50 drawing spearheaded by Donna Kort, helped JR Fore of the Maryland club walk away with a nice cash reward for bringing his Viper to Carlisle.  Ron Hickey, President of the MD VA club, distributed coupons to all members and guests.  The coupons were redeemable for free Carlisle/Viper tee-shirts at the souvenir trailer.   The Viper Club of America won 3rd place for club participation…not bad for a first time entry.  Thanks to all who made the trip to Carlisle and a special thanks to those who assisted in any way to make this such a wonderful event.  Let’s work toward 60 Vipers at Carlisle in 2006.

The National VCA Board Meeting will be held in St. Louis MO, September 8-10.  Ginger and I will be attending this meeting.  It is being held in conjunction with the Midwest Zone Rendezvous so we will enjoy some of those events as well.  Upon our return, we will update you on any new information we receive regarding the VCA.   I am in hopes that an announcement regarding VOI 9 will be made at this meeting.

Viper Days, hosted by Skip Thomas will be held at BeaveRun September 9 – 11.   What is Viper Days?  A VIPER DAYS EVENT IS…..One of the most popular forms of enjoyment for Viper owners is high performance driving.  Far too many owners currently take their enthusiasm for the raw power of the Viper to the city streets and country roads – sometimes with unfortunate results.  Viper Days offers the opportunity for Viper owners to explore the limits of their cars and themselves as drivers in a legal, highly disciplined, and safe environment.  Viper Days is often misperceived as a racing series.  The reality is quite different.  Each Viper Days event features three different components:

(1)   Viper Days High Performance Driving School

(2)   Viper Days Timed Competition Sponsored by Michelin North America

(3)   Viper Racing League and Neon Racing League

In addition to the Viper Days events, there will be a reception on Friday evening, a Beaver County cruise, live music and fireworks are scheduled for Saturday.  To obtain additional information contact club members Rege and Donna Kort at 724-452-4647 (home), 724-316-9343 (cell), or donna@wcsauers.com.  You may also register for Viper Days by going to www.viperdays.com .  Note:  For a sneak preview of a Viper Days event, check out the Viper Days video on the web site noted above.

Club member Jeff Freedman has organized a Lancaster County (PA) Covered Bridge Cruise on September 17th.   We plan to begin the cruise by departing from the Comfort Inn Corporate Getaway, 2250 North George St. in York at approximately 1 PM.  For those that wish to have dinner, a stop is planned for sometime around 6 PM.  There will be a $10 charge for each member/couple.  For those that wish to spend the night in York, overnight accommodations have been set up at the Comfort Inn Corporate Getaway.  Reserve your room by calling the Comfort Inn directly at 717-699-1919.  To obtain the special hot tub suite rate of $59.99, remember to mention the VIPER CLUB when calling.  You will need to individually guarantee your room with a credit card.    To RSVP for the cruise, or for additional information, contact Jeff at 717-755-4998 (home), 717-968-6643 (cell), or jtsef@aol.com by September 14th.

October 15th is the date of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon poker run/cruise and fall meeting.  For those who have never visited “The Canyon”, it is a breathtaking view, especially in the fall, with all the leaves in their vibrant, blazing colors.  If you plan to participate in the poker run/cruise, there will be a $50 per member/couple registration fee.   Half of the $50 fee will go towards the “Prize Pot” and the remainder will go towards lunch in downtown Wellsboro.  We will begin the cruise at the Holiday Inn in Williamsport and head north to Wellsboro where we will visit the Grand Canyon, followed by lunch.  After lunch, we will visit the PA Welcome Center (just across the PA NY border), which overlooks the Tioga-Hammond Dam.  One more stop is planned before heading back to the Williamsport Holiday Inn where the last poker hand card will be distributed at an hors d’oeuvres party.  Our fall meeting will take place during the hors d’oeuvres party which will be compliments of the club.  After the party you can slither down the street in your VIPER, or, ride the shuttle to “The Villa” for dinner.  If you are unable to make it for the cruise, please plan to join us for the party and dinner.   For those that wish to stay in Williamsport on Saturday evening, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn, 1840 East Third Street.  Call the Holiday Inn directly (1-800-369-4572) by October 1st to reserve your room.  BE SURE TO MENTION THE PA WV VIPER CLUB to obtain the club rate of $78.00.  For additional information on this event contact Ginger at 570-662-3103 or email vipergts@ptd.net .  Note: If you have the need to drive a vehicle other than your Viper, you are still welcome to join us for these events.

The PA WV region’s web site (http://wvpa.viperclub.org) is finally up and running.  We apologize for any inconvience caused while we were working through the problems of updating and developing this new site.  The site calendar will be updated with new information as it becomes available.

Several new Viper owners have joined the list of members of the PA WV club.  A hearty welcome is extended to all of you new readers out there!  I hope to meet you all at a Viper event real soon!

In closing, I remind you all to drive safely as you enjoy the beautiful fall weather.  And as always, if you have any ideas or suggestions for events, or questions regarding any of the activities mentioned, please contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Happy Vipering,

Denny
